Dr. Dean Alderucci
For over a decade Dr. Dean Alderucci has worked with a range of small, medium, and large organizations, helping design and create AI for expert decision making, where errors carry significant costs to the firm. His work requires AI designed with a profound and intimate understanding of the business and its decision making processes. He has a strong track record of cross-disciplinary work involving technology, business, and innovation.
During the year 2024 Dean served as a Senior Advisor for Artificial Intelligence to the US Congress. He worked with a bipartisan AI Task Force, composed of 24 members of Congress, to develop policies for dozens of AI issues. He was also lead author on the AI Task Force report, the most comprehensive AI policy document produced by any country’s legislature.
Since 2025 he has served as Special Advisor for Artificial Intelligence to the Connecticut legislature. Dean was also appointed to a two-year term as an advisory committee member for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), advising GSA on regulatory, policy, and procedural reforms to implement Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technological considerations in the federal acquisition process.
He was previously a Partner & Chief Operating Officer of the Innovation Division at a global financial services firm, and before that a Senior Vice President of IP strategy at a business incubator. His varied experiences help him understand the complexities of extracting business value from AI. His commitment to innovation has allowed him to become an inventor on over 300 granted U.S. patents in a wide variety of fields, and to be elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors.
Dr. Alderucci also directs advanced AI research at Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for AI & Patent Analysis. He researches new AI system design,neural network and LLM algorithms, supervises Computer Science graduate students, organizes machine learning conferences, and serves as a journal peer reviewer.
Credentials and teaching
Dr. Alderucci has taught executive education programs and graduate students for over a decade. He teaches MBA and computer science students that “AI is only one piece of the business puzzle.” He currently teaches the “AI for the C-Suite”, “AI for Managers”, and “Business Applications of NLP” courses at Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business, where he also teaches executive education courses in AI.
For several years he taught “Innovation Strategy” and “Business Applications of NLP” at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He also taught for years at Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering. He holds a dual PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in Machine Learning and in Public Policy, awarded jointly by both the School of Computer Science and the College of Engineering. He also has Master of Science degrees from Columbia University in Computer Science, in Applied Mathematics, and in Operations Research. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Innovation and Information Law from New York University School of Law.
