Dean Alderucci is the Director of Research at the Center for AI & Patent Analysis (CAPA) at Carnegie Mellon University. CAPA’s work involves developing Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning algorithms and systems to analyze patents, and to automate other domain-specific decision making by experts.

The Center for AI and Patent Analysis (CAPA) pioneers AI research for use in diverse aspects of patents and the patent system.

This mission is accomplished with two distinct initiatives:

  • Conduct original research on new classes of AI tools for users of the patent system
  • Establish a long-term research agenda to guide the AI research community in solving the largest patent problems collaboratively and incrementally
